How do I reinstall or install a new operating system on my VPS?

If you need to start over with a clean slate or you want to use a different operating system for your VPS, you can easily reinstall. From the NodeSpace Client Portal, navigate to your VPS service. Under Additional Tools, click on Reinstall. You will have two options: OS Templates and ISO Images. The recommended is OS Templates. If you want to ensure your OS is installed a certain way or want an OS that we do not currently have a template for, you can use an ISO template.

Reinstalling from OS Template

Find the OS or version you want to use and click on the reinstall icon. It will take about 10 minutes for your VPS to be reinstalled.

Reinstalling from ISO Image

If there is an OS you would like to install yourself or we don't have a ready-made template for, you can choose an ISO from the list.

Custom ISOs
If you want to install your own ISO, please contact support and we will add it to our list. At this current time, there is no way to currently upload your own ISO. If your ISO contains personal information such as license keys, please let us know and we will ensure that no one else can use it.

Once you find the OS you'd like to install, click on the reinstall button. Once you click the button, you will need to open the noVNC console as your server will reboot to the ISO. You will need to use the noVNC console to manually install the operating system on your server.

You will also need to manually configure the network settings, including your IP address! This will vary by operating system. Make sure you select that your IP address is static and enter your IP address details. If you're not sure what your network details are, select the "Network" option under Additional Tools.

From this section, you can copy down your IP address, network mask, and gateway. Your subnet mask is shown in CIDR notation with your IP address.

Important Note
Some operating systems, like Ubuntu, may ask you for the network address. You can use an IP calculator to find the network address by plugging in the values.

Once your OS is installed, you will need to install the qemu-guest-agent package if not already installed. This will ensure our system is able to manage your VPS, including for backups and snapshots.
